Having a well trained dog is a joy. You have trained them what words and hand-signals mean and they respond willingly to what you ask. Dogs don’t want to make your life hard, but when they are confused and haven’t been properly trained it is most often what they end up doing.
Here at The Paw Pad, our trainers use positive reinforcement. More specifically, we do "clicker training." Clicker training is a positive, motivational method used for training animals to do what we want them to do. The clicker is used to mark a behavior that you want the dog to do. When the dog hears the clicker, they understand that what they are doing at that moment is what you want them to do. The reason we use the clicker instead of other methods is simple: it works better. Dogs understand it and learn faster than with any other method.
When you clicker train a dog you make
it fun for them to learn and help them want to work for you. Many people have very little understanding of
this type of training; our goal is to help make it clear, easy, and fun for
both you and your dog.
